Catholic Church
This church needed support for their Novell NetWare fileserver and 30 users throughout their campus. The church opened a new parish office and needed to move their file server and users and install several new computers. Best Coast Consulting successfully moved all users, installed new computer systems, transferred user data files and moved the NetWare file server, without incident or data loss.
The users required access to the Internet, so Best Coast Consulting installed a firewall with anti-virus capabilities and antivirus software on the desktops, a two-tiered approach to protection.
Best Coast Consulting analyzed their network backups and found that the church was overwriting their data backups every night, which made file recovery beyond 2 weeks impossible. We reconfigured their backup software to provide 6 months of file recovery and routinely perform a file restore to verify proper operation.
After 3 years, the church continues to look to Best Coast Consulting for all their hardware and software needs.
Custom Pool Manufacturer
This custom pool manufacturer required support for their Microsoft Windows 2000 Small Business Server network and 25 users. Access to the Internet was a shared dial-up modem connection and email was sent and received through one user account.
With Best Coast Consulting business partnerships and expertise, productivity increased with the addition of a T-1 connection carrying both voice and Internet data traffic. Monthly local and long distance phone charges where reduced and new features were added.
Internet email for all users and access to company email for salespeople on the road decreased the turn-around time for communicating modifications to pool designs.
New security was implemented allowing only certain people access to the Internet. Antivirus software was added to all computers that cannot be disabled or removed by end-users, ensuring the best protection against infection. Computer operating systems are automatically kept up-to-date with the latest security patches.
A secure VPN connection was setup between the main office and a satellite office, providing access to email, pool designs and company HR files.
On Hold Messaging Company
This company requires constant Internet access in their business operations. Best Coast Consulting installed a Bandwidth Aggregator that eliminated Internet downtime by combining a T-1 Internet circuit and a broadband cable connection with failover capabilities.
Remote offices in New York, California, Florida and Puerto Rico are connected to a central phone switch using a secure VPN connection and Voice over IP (VoIP), resulting in the elimination of monthly charges for long distance calls between the main office and the remote offices.
Best Coast Consulting evaluated the security of the installed firewall and found it to be incorrectly configured which could have resulted in a breach of network integrity from the Internet. Our engineers corrected the problem and configured an unused DSL circuit to be used as a backup to the T-1 circuit to the Internet.
Cruise Line Travel Agency
Best Coast Consulting was called into this company after the previous consultants completely rebuilt an Active Directory domain on Windows 2000 Small Business Server and convinced the owner that 20 user email inboxes were unrecoverable. Unfortunately, BCC was called in after the destruction was complete. We evaluated the state of the network and made adjustments to the server configuration and had the agency running smoothly within a couple of days.
We recommended a server-based anti-virus package and an anti-spam software package that eliminated 95% of the unsolicited commercial email (UCE, or SPAM). Further elimination of SPAM would affect the agency's business adversely. BCC has since been the vendor of choice and has helped this business grow to include Voice over IP (VoIP) for remote agents.
Wholesale Office Supply Company
Best Coast Consulting was referred by our customer to meet with this company for a second opinion regarding PC performance. The recommendation of their previous consultant was to replace every PC over 3 years old. Our analysis found that memory upgrades to those Pentium 4 PC's would resolve the performance issues. Upgrading the memory has extended the life on these systems several years, saving this company thousands of dollars on premature PC replacements and the expense of moving all the users' data and email to new systems. As a result of this engagement, Best Coast Consulting has been chosen to replace an old Windows NT server with a new Windows Server 2003 fileserver.
